Mac cannot see PC

Hello,

Having just installed MacOSX 10.2.6 I'm attempting to connect to my pc using an Ethernet cable. I have given both machines an IP address and started up file sharing on both computers. When I ping to my Mac from the WinXP machine I get a return, but when pinging from the Mac to the PC I get a timeout...

Has anyone got any advice or suggestions as to what I need to double-check to get these machines talking to each other ? :(

well i used to transfer files from my WinXP PC to my OSX 10.2.5 Mac.

first of all, im not that technical type person, but at my office my pc was connected to a hub (which i think that's why we use ethernet cable, right?). i have not remember pinging from my pc to my mac machine or vice versa.

i used the 'Connect to Server' function in my mac machine, i think by pressing Command-K or Command-G (have to check on that.), and i just type in my pc ip for example 192.168.0.5.

it should looked like this smb://192.168.0.5

well i hope this will help you Joe.

Hey there azrad, thanks for posting.

I worked it out in the end - turned out I had my firewall on in Windows, so it would obviously block anything coming in from the network....
