My mac os x crashed. I have all my disk but I can't get anything accomplished. I pass the screen that ask if us, blah, blah, and when it get to pick the destination......I have no options. This is where I'm stuck. Please let me know what to do. I've been to format, to restore, bring it to the shop....trash it.... I want my computer back up and running. I have all my original disk. I just need to know what to do.

Boot using the OS install disk (hold down the c key during a restart). The use the Disk Utility program to look at your hard disk (in OS X this is called Disk Utility - I forget what it was called in OS 9) . There will be options to verify or repair, you may need both. Hopefully your disk appears in this window (if not you may have a dead hard disk). You could try reformatting the disk from here.

In OS 9 and below it was called Disk First Aid. However, allgood77 specified it was Mac OS X.

Your Mac should have come with a hardware diagnostic disc. Use that to test and see if your hard drive has failed or not.

Also, please elaborate on your system specifications and what version of OS X you're running so we can help you better.
