I am new to Mac's. I just bought an iBook and am wondering if there is a site around that will tell me what different file extensions mean.

Thanks In Advance

Some of the ones most noticable on Macs are:
.app - Mac OS X applications
.pkg - Mac OS X installer
.sit - Files compressed with AladdinSys Stuffit
.dmg - Mac OS X disk image files
.pdf - Adobe Portable Document Format/Mac OS X screenshots
.tif - uncompressed images
.jpg and .pdf - compressed images
.aif - uncompressed audio
.mp3 - MPEG1 Layer 3 encoded audio
.m4a - MPEG4 AAC encoded audio
.m4p - copy protected MPEG4 AAC encoded audio (like the ones downloaded from the iTunes Music Store)
.rtf - Rich Text Format, used by TextEdit for text documents

:)

I remember huge databases of thousands files and types I could find on MacWorld CDs, back in OS7/8/9 times.
