Mac i book osx crash

Hi i have a 14' ibook g3 that has been nothing but problems since i got it.

It has mac OSX and Os9 as a backup.

When i used prgrams in Osx they would shut down and dissapear now in os9 (which i use to boot) it comes on and has a picture of a flashing folder with a question mark on it where the apple logo shoud be. then it cuts off.

any help?

That certainly looks like OS 9 isn't really installed.

What do you mean by "programs in OS X would shut down and disappear"?
