Mac look-a-likes in artistic renderings

Colonel Panic
Unfortunately, Blondie strips are not officially posted online until 2 weeks or so after they appear in newspapers  , but today's strip (9/20) shows what is clearly meant to be a G3 or G4 tower on Dagwood's desk, with a flat-panel display. :D

Today (or yesterday, I should say) was November 20, which is 11/20/03 (or 20/11/03, depending on where one is from).

Post the link when they put it online, or scan it in... wouldn't be the first time.

BTW, I've seen lots of cartoon computers that mimic Macs. So it's really nothing new, but it's still cool.

At long last here is the strip. Examine the last panel (and ignore the slapdash coloring job) and see if you don't think it resembles a G4 tower with flat display.

For the record: I know that Macs in strips, tv, etc. are nothing new, but personally I find it more interesting when an artist goes to the trouble to hand-draw a Mac than when a picture of one appears in a TV show.

LOL... that DOES look like a G4 tower with a flat screen monitor! Dagwood uses a better computer than I do! :D ;)

Now, for bonus points, can anyone offer a reason why I can only see my own posts in this thread? It seems to affect ONLY this thread -- I've gotten the email notifications that others have posted here, but I can't see them when I come to the page.

It's not Dagwood's, but his nerdy co-worker's. The difference is subtle, but the vertical (vs. diagonal) handles, a hint of the vent-hole texture and the wider display are evident in the 12/30 Blondie strip. When it comes online (2 weeks from now) I'll be sure to post it here.

Makes me wonder if the artist reads this forum...

Yeah, I saw it too. I even scanned it to put up here (see attachment, copywright the authors of course).

Similarities to a G5 with a Cinema Display:
  • The shape and design of the tower, including the handles, holes on the front, and CD drive slot at the top
  • The shape, angle and logo position of the display
  • The shape of the keyboard and mouse
  • The on-screen Dock and Mac-like menu
  • And, finally, the text displayed in Chicago in the middle panel.
Young and/or Drake are probably Mac people.

Today's Foxtrot features Peter as a character in an iPod commercial, and a couple weeks ago Luann was using a G4 iMac.

I'll probably scan the Foxtrot one, but the Luann strip has been recycled.

EDIT: No need to scan it. :)

This is a comic from yesterday's paper. Tell me that isn't an Apple CRT display.
