Mac Mini had trouble with DVI-to-HDMI

I recently connected my Mac Mini to my Sony KDL-40XBR2 LCD TV. I used a DVI-to-HDMI cable to connect it to an HDMI switcher, and the switcher is connected to the TV.

Everything went fine for about 30 seconds. Then some lines started flashing on the screen. The image problems quickly worsened and the image was flashing on and off. I turned off the TV set.

I re-connected via VGA cable and it has been fine since, but I am curious as to what happened.

Any ideas?

Two things I would suggest. First would be to check the manual for the TV. I know someone with a similiar Sony LCD and there are recommmendations for hooking up a computer to it.

If that doesn't indicate anything, I would try plugging it directly to the tv. It could be an issue with the switcher.
