Mac mini keyboard shortcut

I’ve started a new job, so i was handed over a Mac mini but some functions and shortcuts aren’t working properly.

Let me explain.

When I’m in In design all my shortcuts works perfectly.
When I’m in Photoshop or in Freehand and I’m using my shift button it doesn’t seem to work. I’m trying to draw a perfect square but when I draw it and I hold shift it doesn’t allow me to keep it in proportion.

Apparently it has been working fine before but now it doesn’t

Could anyone assist?

Not sure if this is related, but I remember a bug in Illustrator 12.0.0, where shortcuts wouldn't work at all unless you used the "USA" keybord layout (not "Extended" or "Pro", just USA or US). All you had to do was to switch layout, use a shortcut, and then you could switch to the original layout again and shortcuts would now work with the other layout. You had to do this every time you launched Illustrator.

They fixed this in 12.0.1, but that upgrade is no longer available as far as I can tell...

Anyhow, try switching keyboard layout, and see if that helps (System Settings->International).
