Hello all...first post.

I have a MAC OS X 10.5.8.

I am using FireFox 5.

To get one of our internal development applications to function properly, I need JAVA.

So, first i got into Terminal and typed: java -version

And was returned:
java version "1.5.0_13"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-237)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-119, mixed mode, sharing)
Macintosh-2:~ dnichols$

In my Applications/Utilities/Java folder is: Java Preferences application.

When I open that it defaults to the General tab and J2SE 5.0 radio button is selected.

Nothing in the Java Applet runtime parameters...

In the runtime settings i have:

J2SE 5.0
J2SE 5.0 (64 bit)
Java SE 6 (64 bit)
J2SE 1.4.2

In the Advanced Tab, nothing selected for Debugging. java console is set to "do not start console".

Shortcut creation is set to "prompt"

security has various options selected, but nothing looks out of the ordinary.

So, i went into the Apple menu to Software Update and completed that.

Went into FireFox > Tools > Addons > Plugins and do not see JAVA anywhere...

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a possible FF5 issue that needs to be reported?

Any insight, help or tips would be greatly appreciated and awarded with a free pint of beer if you ever make it to Boise, Idaho.

Well . . . you do not read like a "N00b"

Yesterday, methinks, Apple just released Java updates for 10.5 and 10.6 respectively. Do not know if that helps you.

Next, FF has been, shall we say, sketchy since it can run under 64-bit. I have noticed that some things--like Flash and Shockwave--do not run under 64-bit--including the "Shockwave" that IS intended for 64-bit. Both work under Safari, "go figya!"

The "Addons-Plugins" on the FF browser does not always show the correct version or even the plugin.

So . . . if it is NOT simply a case of updating your Java--in which case it should not work in FF or Safari until you do--it may be a case of FF not handling it properly.

With that . . . I am sure a Guru will come by and tell you everything I just suggested is nonsense. :)
