Mac Os 9

I have two hard drives in my tower right now. The first hard drive is configured for Mac OS 10.2. The second one is just for storage. The second hard drive I would like to put Mac OS 9 on just to run one program. However, when I put in the Mac OS 9 installer CD it says that I do not have a valid classic system folder. Which is correct because I do not have Mac OS 9 on my computer at all, it does not exist. There is no way that I can figure out to put Mac OS 9 back on. Is there any suggestions, besides buying an updated program for Mac OS 10.2. They do not make the program for Mac OS X.

I donot have a 2003 mac. I cannot boot from the Mac OS 9 CD because it says i have no valid system folder. When restarting holding down the "C" key it just boots back into Mac OS X.

i'm guessing you didn't install the os 9 drivers on either drive when you formated them last. gotta have 'em to run os 9. guess you'll need to reformat from os x's disk utility.

Well for those who will need help doing this i have figured it out on my own. First you must open disk utility and select the hard drive you would like to install Mac OS 9 on. You cannot install it on top of Mac OS X. So once you have selected the hard drive you would like to install it on, there is a simple little box you can check that says "install Mac OS 9 drivers." It is that simple to do, well i hope this helps someone besides me.

no, you can install os 9 on top of os x, you just need to be sure you have checked that little box when you format your disks. lots of people think they are never going touse os 9 or classic again and so format without them. if you don't use os 9, you don't need them. however i have never figured out that they harm anything by being installed without being used, so it seems to make sense to cover all your bases and install them regardless.

and just for the record, there are at least a half dozen other threads on this site about this issue.
