Mac OS X reinstall

Da'iMacDaddy

Unix Newb.
OK if I were to do a full installation of Mac OS X would my user preferences be deleted?

My finder is acting screwy and I think I need to reinstall it but theres no simple way of doing that (at least I think because I posted here and none of you even replied)

Would I have to create the users all over again or would os X retain all that data?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you will go to Jaguar at this point, you can - in fact - 'archive' the old installation and its users instead of just updating. If you don't go to Jaguar, you can make a backup of your user's folder. You'll find your applications' settings in '/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences' (or most of them), so you could also just backup that, if you don't need your files and everything else, any more. And afterwards, you can copy them back, for example in Terminal:

sudo ditto -rsrc path/to/source path/to/destination

... should be fine. :)

I have performed the cleans install with archive of Jaguar as after the upgrade install, I couldn't find a way to get rid of Dave which currently does not work with Jaguar.

Now what to do with the archive? Can I copy over files from the previous install of Jaguar? Which files should I copy to get my system back to where it was after the upgrade install?
