Hi Guys,

I have two questions

1. How do re-run the welcome application to reset up your mac?

OK I have found this one Setup Assistant in system/library/coreservices.

2. Which file holds the info for what users have been setup on the mac?

I deleted the user out of the users folder and rebooted and it tells me the folder is gone. So I dumped the ~ level Preferences folder it still know is missing.

I know you can delete the user in the system preferences panel under users. Thanks

1. I don't know how to force the "Welcome" application to run. If you try to launch "Setup Assistant" (in the Utilities folder) it tells you to use System Preferences to make the changes you need. Good advice, as all the settings you would want to change are located there.

2. To make changes to Users it's best to use the Users preference panel in System Preferences. Alternatively you can use NetInfo Manager to make changes to your users. You can read about NetInfo Manager by downloading this document.

Ok you can re-run the welcome application by using the Setup Assistant in folowing Directory system/library/coreservices.

I have deleted a user from the users folder in system 9 and dumped the root level preference folder.

But OS X still has a file somewhere that knows what users have been setup and it tries to locat the home directory.

I'm trying to locate that file so when you do system install over a corrupt system you can use that setting file to keep your user that you have setup.

Users and groups and all such stuff is stored in the NetInfo database in Mac OS X. Therefore if you want to make changes to user settings you must use NetInfo Manager - or its equivalent commands from the shell. Other systems make use of the file /etc/passwd but you'll notice if you look in there that there is no entry for the user you created at install time. However you will find this user's information by running NetInfo Manager.
