Over the last few days certain portions of my UI will go from full color to what appears to be a 16, or 256 color palette. This is random and has affected different UI elements at different times.
Some applications will remain full color while elements such as the icon bar while CMD+Tab'ing, certain windows within a single application, or the entire display will "black out". I'll use a corner to reveal the desktop and it will be in full color still, along with the icons.
Has anyone seen this behavior before?
Could this be a hardware issue, such as video card memory banks going bad. Would this make sense that certain elements are stored in various VRAM addresses?
I've rebooted a couple of times each day, and this occurs two or three times a day (I work ten hour days).
See screenshots for some examples.
System Information:
Macbook Pro (late 2010) running OS X 10.7.2
Apply Cinema Display (2009) on miniDisplay to DVI converter
Apple USB Keyboard
Generic USB Mouse
(that's all!)
