Mac OSX 10.1

This is my set up
PowerMac G4 Dual 450 Mhz
System 9.2.1
640 Meg RAM
2 internal ide drives
Cable Modem connected through a Hawkins Router to a ethernet hub to which my mac is connected.

Problem:
In osx 10.04 everything worked fine.
In 10.1 IE5.1 and software update fail to make an internet connection.
However if I activate classic and run IE 5 (classic version) an internet connection is established.

Any help in what I am doing wrong or how to correct or troubleshoot this will be appreciated.
 
Fire up the console (its in the Utilities folder, which is in the Applications folder, its called 'Console' not 'Terminal').

See if any error messages pop up when you try and use ie.

I had some connection errors with software update on my g3 and my g4 with 10.1, and I never figured it out. I got the update (10.1.1) and I"ve never had them again.
