Mac Osx Font Problems!!!

DANG

I've just switched from mac os9 to mac osx 10 i'm trying to put all my old fonts onto the new machine but it isn't allowing me to. I've tried putting them into suitcase X1, font book and just straight onto the system folder but the machine doesn't seem to acknowledge them as fonts or anything for that matter. Not sure what all the font types are but probably a selection of all possible types as have been acquired over a number of years.
I've run font doctor but that doesn't seem to recognise them either. I don't think fonts are corrupt as they still work on the old system.
Is there an easy solution, or does this mean i need to buy new fonts?

I think it's a file extension thing, i had a few niggles with that when i wanted to bring my OS9 fonts and use them in OSX. Do the font files just show as grey icons and when opened they open with terminal? if so then i would be correct in you having same problem as me. The thing that saved me was that i had my fonts stired on a cd and i imported them straight into FontAgent (at the time) i now use Linotype FontExplorer X which is by far the best font management app - plus it's free. I dont't think buying all the fonts again need be the case if they work on the old system most, if not all, should work on OSX - i did experience that some still remained grey terminal icons and were no good but a majority of my fonts worked.

Hope i've been some help :)

MacOS 9 fonts just work in MacOS X. The same is true of Windows TrueType and PostScript fonts. Perhaps, you are trying to place them in /System/Library/Fonts/. Try placing them in /Library/Fonts/ or in /{your account}/Library/Fonts/.
