Here's another reason why the Mac kicks ass...

I just sold my nearly 2 year old G4/400. When I bought it, I paid $1500 for it (a little less than list through a SmallDog Promo). It just fetched a little over $900 on eBay. That's about a 35% depreciation over 2 years.

Compare that with my PIII/800. It is about 1 1/2 years old. I paid $1300 for it initially. If I were to turn around and sell it today, I'd be lucky if I could get $350 for it, considering new 1ghz PC's can be had for that much. That's around a 60% depreciation. Ouch.

The simple fact that Mac's depreciate so slowly has allowed me over the years to upgrade them every 18-24 months. Macs may cost a little more up front, but they hold their value better and longer. My PC after 18 months has almost no resale value.

I doubt most Mac haters really grasp this fact...
 
No, they tend to say "whoever buys a 2 year old mac for that money is a stupid as the guy who bought it new".
They just don't get it.

But I just got myself an old G3 233 for just around 35 dollars. Don't know what to do with it, but well ;)

That's a great deal. Those machines are still fetching around $250 on eBay.

You could set it up as a file server, or you could just keep it around as a machine dedicated to solely running OS 9. It could save you the hassle of rebooting your other machine in to 9.
 
My machine is a B&W G3 300, and Mac OS X runs fine. It should be fun to install Win XP on a 3 years old PC :D

In Norway they still cost around 3 times more, heh :rolleyes:

But... 35$? Wow! ;)
Set it up as a parallell computer, or run SETI in Darwin with it, or send it to me :p
