Learning assembly in comp. sci. class, trying to get by using a mac.

I'm running OS 10.4.11 on a G4 iBook and I need to use the SPIM simulator. I would love to get XSpim running, but can't seem to get XDarwin to work. (Tried downloading it directly, and that version quits immediately.)

Anyway, I'd be fine working in terminal with regular Mac Spim, but I keep getting "Cannot open file 'xxxx'" regardless of what text editor I use or where the file is saved when I am using the load command, and none of the tutorials around seem to explain why. Help out a budding programmer trying to stay mac!

OK. The version of X11 that you need is included either preinstalled or on your computer's System Restore disc. Do not bother with downloadable versions unless explicitly instructed by Apple to do so.

Otherwise, James Larus gives clear instructions for installing SPIM on your Mac.

X11 is having issues, so I'd rather not go that route.

I read Larus' page. The problem isn't that I can't install SPIM, it's that I cannot seem to load any programs once it's running, regardless of directory, naming convention, or filetype. I keep getting "Cannot open file 'xxx'"

Anyone know how why?
