mac vs PC ipods

captain obvious
are there any hardware differences between the two models or is it just the firmware and software that comes with it?

i have a 5gb ipod but want to upgrade to a 10 or 20 (yes, i have that many mp3s :)) and a friend is interested in buying my old one if it will work on his pc

if i buy a new pc model ipod and just give him the software package that comes with it and my old mac ipod will everything work out?

The new model might have updated software. Check Apple's web site for iPod software and see if your friend could download the windows full version. Then buy the Mac version for yourself, giving the older iPod to your friend.

Apple says MusicMatch Jukebox (excellent piece of software) is 100% compatible with iPod, ask your friend to use that. Buy the Mac version(is there even a difference?) for your self.

Software (Music Match), Cable (Power Supply???), and FAT32 formatted more than likely...

I have mutliple computers I would use the iPod with - including PCs, and I think it's better to get an iPod for Mac - and just install MacDrive software on all the PCs. heh :D

Well, on the Apple site, on some FAQs for the iPod I believe, it says that the Mac version iPod can't work on Windows, because, as usual, Windows can't see HFS+ partitions, and can't format the iPod to FAT32 or NTFS.

The Windows version will work on a Mac, however, since Macs can read windows partitions.

I think they have a slightly differnt firewire cable too, but you can pick up one of these separately anyway.
