Hello all

I just bought a Macally webcam for my g4 powermac (450mhz) recently updated with os 10.4.11 and it won't work via skype - have clicked in preferences/video and I get a blank green square in the video screen with a blurred photo line at the top. It works on my mini pc and also on the macs in the shop when I took it back - the shop suggested that it may be because it is usb 2 - a tech I know said no that shouldn't be a problem.

any help appreciated !!

PM G4 450 MHz with as much RAM as it can handle should be just about able to hand Mac OS X 10.4.11.

But doing more graphics and RAM intensive stuff on it like video editing, (newer games) gaming or video chat may be a bit too much for it.

Actually, the system requirements for the current version of Skype (2.8) for Mac OS X are as follows:
Mac computer with G4, G5 or Intel processor, 800 MHz or faster.
Mac OS X v10.3.9 (Panther) or newer.
For higher-resolution video a faster processor (Core 2 Duo) and a broadband connection with at least 384kbps upload speeds.
512 MB RAM.
100 MB free disk space on your hard drive.
Either a built-in or external microphone is required for voice calls.
Either USB or regular headset if your Mac does not have a built-in microphone.
Download drivers if you are using an external webcam. -- http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/
Internet connection – broadband is best (GPRS is not supported for voice calls).

So as long as your drivers are correct for the camera it should be able to handle it - but it'd still need a bit more from the processor. G4 450 MHz just doesn't have enough power for processing the video tasks for that camera.

Would there be any possibility to upgrade your Mac (as in sell your current one, and buy a newer one, not necessarily the newest one out there but I'd say for future proofing it a bit more something that came with an Intel processor, so let's say from 2006 or newer)?
