MacBook Pro keyboard - help!

I'm really hoping someone can help me here, because I'm beginning to panic a little. I took the space bar off my MacBook Pro's keyboard, in an attempt to put an end to the insane squeaking noise that was starting to drive me up the wall. However, I can't seem to get it back on. I've successfully taken keys off my Compaq laptop, including the space bar, and they go back on with a simple click - easy as that. I also took off the option key on my MacBook Pro and that went back on fine, but I can't seem to get the space bar back on at all. When I do click it back on, it sits strangely (the top seems to be more raised - and it's supposed to be completely even, I'd assume) and it doesn't work at all when pressed. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. However, the space bar is not like the other keys in having the 'X' shaped white plastic part. It has three circular things, non-removable, as far as I'm aware. I'm really having a problem getting it positioned properly.

I have clicked the three white things (not sure what to refer to them as, sorry! I mean the three circular things, the middle one of which has the rubber button for the space bar) into place on the underside of the key, which I presume is correct. I thought it would then be a case of simply flipping the key down and pressing it to connect the bottom clips of the three white things. However, this doesn't work.

If anyone could help I'd be really grateful.

Try the opposite. Connect the “buttons” to the lower clips first (detach them from the spacebar) then push the bar down onto them. The problem sounds the same as it does for the x frame thingies. You can’t connect them properly to the lower clips/hooks when they’re attached to the key itself.

Remember, there has to be a simple way to do this. They don’t have tiny midgets with teeny little fingers in the factory putting the keycaps on.

$99.00 will get you a new keyboard for the MacBook Pro:

They also refer to an instructional manual, but the site doesn't list one for the MacBook Pro (at least I can't find it). Individual keys are sold as well... just in case.
This might not help you much right now, I realize. Your questions tempted me to take my space bar off to give it a try, but I think I will resist the urge to try it myself ;-)
Good luck, must be frustrating!
