Macbook Pro Won't Print.

I was using a Canon Pixma MP240 for my printing and scanning needs until it stopped printing. What was strange is that my Macbook recognized the printer, showed it in System Preferences as my default printer, and I was able to open its printing queue; it just constantly said "Printing..." and never actually printed anything. At first it only happened when the printer was connected to my Time Capsule and accessed wirelessly, but after a few days of using it via a USB cord, it had the same problem.

After reinstalling the drivers, running disk utility, and basically doing everything under the sun to resolve the issue, I gave up and bought another printer, this time an HP Photosmart C309n. This time, it didn't work right out of the box. The only difference is now it continually says "Looking for Printer..." in the queue, and still doesn't print anything.

I'm running Snow Leopard, 10.6.4. Anyone have any idea what might be going on? I'm kind of stressing out since I'm in college and I have to print out assignments on a bi-weekly basis.
