Hi.
I have a Macbook with 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. 1Gb RAM upgraded recently to 2Gb or RAM. It has a Toshiba HDD, I believe it's 75Gb. The OS is 10.4.11.
I've had this machine for over 3 years. No more Apple warranty.
Problems started like this. Occassionaly Safari would close by itself. Time passed the problem would require be to restart the computer for me to access the internet by Safari faster, otherwise I'd have to wait for Safari to connect over a long period of time. I don't know how long, because I never waited. By the way, I didn't know I was supposed to clean out the cache or repair permissions regularly, until now.
Later computer performance worsened. Streaming video would not go smoothly. I thought the video just wasn't buffered well. I checked out the activity monitor, and was convinced I needed more RAM. Later not just video was affected, I started seeing the beach ball more frequently, so I upgraded the RAM from 1Gb to 2Gb.
It was recommended to me that I reformat my computer, so I did that and a clean install. A new problem came up. My computer would take a long time to boot up. I think maybe 15 minutes altogether. At first I thought it had just froze so I relunctantly powered it down with the power button, waited and restarted. Sometimes I'd get the black DOS-like screen ending with a message like "I have no name!". I can't remember if the slow starting up problem was immediately or soon afterwards I formatted the hardrive.
Later I noticed my MagSafe adaptor had a burn near the "brick" and beginning to deteriorate. It's replaced now.
Presently, the MacBook Continues to have long loading time and is slow to operate and access apps or files (beach ball).
So far I've used the disc that came with the MacBook to check for any hardware problems. No problems were found. I've repaired permissions, reset PMU, but no improvement. I've tried to repair disc, but of course there's no problem.
I hope someone out there has an answer for me. Could there still be a problem with the logic board or the hard drive even though nothing was identified by the diagnostics?
