Magsafe unplugging

Does anyone know if there's a recommended way to unplug magsafe power connectors? I tried the obvious thing, grabbing hold of the connector and pulling, but it's to small to get a strong enough grip of. The only way I've been able to unplug it is by gripping the wire but that seems really brutal to me! don't want to end up breaking the wire.
 
Grab the end hard plastic connector (NOT the cord) and bend it upward. Its snaps away easily. Apple explicitly say not to pull the cord.

PS- your location, NW and SE England, that must lead to a lot of commuting :)
 
Can't believe I didn't try that! I was trying to pull directly away from the machine. Anyway I'm glad I asked before the cable got damaged.

As for my location I live in the northwest but spend a lot of time in the southeast, I was born in London and most of my friends and family live down there so it's like my second home :D
