mail.app Problem seeing new Viewer Window

Hi,

I have just setup my email account using mail.app.

The viewer window doesn't display. Even if I choose File->New Viewer Window nothing happens.

I seem to be having no problems retreiving my mail, when I use the Activety viewer it retreives the email from the server, but I can't view it because of the above problem.

Has anybody had a similar problem and knows how to fix it?

Thanks
Guy

did you restart mail?

restart your mac?

run disk first aid?

Those are my first choices.

Hope it helps

i'm not sure what you're referring to as the 'viewer window'. if you are talking about the side bar that allows you to choose which account to access, then there is a button on the top right corner of the window that will open it up. be sure you have left enough room on the right hand side of the main window for it to appear in.
if you are referring to the window where all your emails in an account are listed, then it is often a matter of clicking on the sperator bar and dragging it down to increase the size of this window. you might need to resize the entire mail window to be able to identify this.

the viewer windows its the entire inbox area. All the messages, everything you see when mail.app comes up.

Is that what your missing? That's what i'm thinking of.

Hi,

Thanks for these replies. The window I was talking about is the one that is supposed to show my emails, ie the Inbox etc. Basically, I can't get any window to come up at all in the mail.app program. I read that when you start mail, it is supposed to come up by defaul. It doesn't. Even if I choose File->Show Viewer Window, nothing comes up at all.

I have also seen a similar problem with the TextEdit Program, and the PrintCentre is having troubles also. I have 3 printers installed (2 Through networks, one via USB), they show up in the Print dialog in applications like Explorer etc, but they don't show up in the print centre. Funny thing is, if I double click where the printer should show up in the list, it opens up the Individual printer status window. Wierd.

It seems to be something more system wide that is causing the problem rather than just the mail.app program.

I havn't upgraded to 10.2.3 yet, so I will try that. Failing all that I am tempted to re-install the system from scratch. This is a new Mac that had the OS pre-installed, maybe it wasn't done properly.

Thanks
Guy

Hi,

I found out what this was after many re-installs of OS X, and also a full re-format and install.

It was a corrupted Font!. I was copying the TTF fonts from my Windows PC. One out of the fonts that I was copying seemed to cause the problem. As soon as I removed the font its all fixed !

Just thought I would mention this in case somebody else sees these syptoms.

Thanks
Guy
