Mail attachments and Belkin router

I have a Mac Pro using OSX 10.5 and a PC using XP networked with a Belkin Wireless 802.11g router, using cable internet (with Optus).

I have a problem sending large attachments (3MB to 10MB) with Mail using the Mac - sending the message takes in excess of 20 minutes at an average rate of 13 KB/s, and results in the router dropping the internet connection (and the connection to my mail server), and the message fails to send. If I send the same attachment from the PC, using the router, the Outlook mail message sends successfully in about 5 minutes.

Both computers are connected to the router with ethernet cables, I have updated the router with the latest driver and my Mac software updates are up to date. Is this a problem with the Mac or the router?
