Mail crashes after 10.1.2 update

Ever since installing 10.1.2 Mail crashes now and again as soon as I run it. I start Mail again and it is fine. I am alone in this weirdness?
 
hmm, i've experienced the other two but not that one. you might try deleting your preference file. i have seen this suggested for a finicky mail app many times. (just remove it from folder to start with. don't throw it away until you are sure it is source of issue)
 
Now the same thing is happening with iPhoto! Crashes once then runs fine. Other than 10.1.2, the only other new apps I have installed recently are palm desktop, Office X preview, WindowsMedia Player and XDarwin 1.06.

Maybe I am too stuck in the old Mac days for thinking of conflicts as the problem, but it would be nice to blame Microsoft for all my troubles - ah, just like the old days.
 
sounds more like a disc or system problem now. either run a good repair utility or do the fsck thing or both. (do site search for fsck if you need help with that)
