Mail, Entourage and file attahments

When I send my attachements to my windows friends using mail, they say there are 2 attachments that come through. 1 that works and another one that is like .4k big that is named the same but doesn't work. So I switched the settings to plain text instead of rich text hoping that would solve the problem but people how have difficulty opening my attachments. What gives? This never happened in Entourage...but I'd rather use mail if I still can. Can someone help? :confused:
 
Mail uses AppleDouble encoding to send attachments. They'll essentially work on every OS whether it's a Mac, Windows or UNIX, but in Windows there'll be two attachments. Most Mac guys would realize that the bigger one is the right attachment, but Windows users tend not to be very enlightened.

Entourage doesn't cause this problem as long as you choose Windows encoding. By default though, Entourage is set to AppleDouble just like Mail.
