How do I get inbox, sent items, deeted items, etc to display at the left of the sscreen rather than having to press the the apple button and a number all the time cos it's annoying me?

if i understand your question, it's easy. First make sure you have mailboxs icon in your toolbar, then move the mail window close to the right side of the screen, and when you hit the mailboxes icon the drawer will shoot out to the left. It just pickes which side of the screen has more room. That's why you move the viewer window to the right.
