Mail freezes and Crashes When I go to "Preferences"

When I open Mail, I click "Preferences" and the application freezes, and I have to Force Quit it.

Help, thanks.
 
Try going into your utilities folder and running Disk Utility to repair disk permissions.

Also run Software Update to see if there are any outstanding updates.

That's where I'd start.
