Mail Issue

Howdy
Heres my issue. If i leave mail open for a long amount of time (like i always do) its like it times out of the mail server. Then i get this error (see attached image). Then i just take the mail account offline, then back online and i'm good to go for a while. Now it doesn't happen with my work account just my personal account. So i'm guessing it's a server issue. Can someone please let me know whats going on and how to fix it if i can.

Thanks

It's probably the mac.com's email server being flakey. You can use your ISP's smtp server for all your outgoing mail if you want to. That might get rid of the problems.

Actually i'm not using apple. When it gives me this message it just picks a different mail server to try and apple's happened to be next on the list. I wanna use my ISP's but at home we go though MSN and it just doesn't work because it doesn't know who i am and I think the same holds true if i try to use the works outging mail server with my personal account. (oops that was a runon)

If by saying it doesn't know who you are, you mean you need to authenticate, then you can do that in Mail.

Go into Preferences>Accounts
Select Options... at the bottom of the pane near where it says Outgoing mail server
Select Authentication: Password
You can most likely use the same username/password that you use for your ISP pop account(if you have one) or possibly your pppoe password for msn(if it's DSL, I have no idea how MSN internet access works)

That should allow you to use SMTP Authentication for sending mail.

You can do the same thing with your work's mail server if they have SMTP authentication set up.
