I've been experiencing problems with my OS Mail for ages. It regularly quits when I receive mail, when I am searching for something or when I am in the middle of writing a really long email. I even updated my system from 10.2.8 to 10.3 yesterday in an attempt to stop it but to no avail!
I do have 12 accounts running and 8000 messages but I have 62Gb available.
Is this just too much for it to handle?
