Mail & Safari won't run

Hello,

After using Panther for a full 2 days with no issues Mail and Safari won't start up. Well, I can click on them to start them and I get the little triangle below them in the dock but they do not show in the finder. I restarted multiple times before this happened and the only thing I can figure is it has something to do with it going to sleep. Disk utility has been run. Any ideas?

You could try moving the following files to your desktop [or some other location of your choosing]:

Move: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Move: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist

Then run the offending applications once more and see if there is any change.

If the problem is corrected, sling the two files above and you're up and running again...

If you did an archive and install, you might take a look-see if you still have Mail and Safari 10.2 apps lurking around. Any third party menu extras/launchers would still hold aliases attached to old originals that won't open in 10.3.

Well it was me being silly. I replaced a Helvetic Neue font with a different one. Needless to say, this was a bad idea.

It's worth making a point of this for everyone else, by that I mean those who don't already know: DO NOT remove ANY of the fonts in the following folders:

/System/Fonts
/Library/System/Fonts

In some cases, removing these fonts will stop your mac from booting up.

If you _do_ want to monkey around with fonts, do so in:

~/Library/Fonts

This is where you get to add and remove fonts of your own that only you will see.
