Mail will not consistently access my GMail account

Google allows you to access your GMail account through POP. The issue I'm having is that Mail will not consistently access my Google GMail account. I can send a message to myself (GMail) from my yahoo and comcast accounts, but when other people send me email, Mail doesn't seem to download the files from my Google GMail account consistently. Mozilla's Mail client downloads all files from my GMail account without any problems. I have gone through all the settings, everything is right, otherwise I wouldn't be able to send mail to Gmail account from my yahoo and comcast accounts.

Any suggestions or reasons why I'm experiencing this behavior with Mail? Any known bugs with Mail?

Yes, Mail is set to check for new mail every 15 minutes.

The issue is that I know the new mail is in the account because Mozilla 1.7.10 downloads the mail in its email client.
