mailto: link not recognised

I’m having difficulty with my email links (made in DreamWeaver MX). Basically my Mac browsers don’t detect the links and Safari puts up an error message: “mailto: links not recognised in OS X”. Well, “mailto:” is the standard way of flagging up an email link. Works fine in the PC browsers. Can anyone shed any light on this?
