make my mac for network? how to?

hi all.

last thread of me i asked the way to connect form pc to mac (mac to pc works fine) with smb.

last time i tried to ping my mac machine from the pc. no way. i tried....
made some configs..... no way!

how can i make my mac visible on the network???

winsharing is on. made shares. what now?

First you need to establish whether the network is set up correctly. On your PC, ping your Mac's address. On your mac, ping the PC's address. If these fail for any reason, then you have a problem with the network setup itself, and will need to correct it before any type of communication between the two will work.

Just a note on the ping thing. Depending on how you have configured teh firewall on the Mac it may be blocking the ping request from the windows box.

Make shure that windows file sharing is turned on and the the firewall is configured to allow the SMB traffic in. I think that is all in the network preferences tab. I'm sure someone will chime in wiht the corect location. I'm in a bit of a rush...

The fact that sharing one direction works indicates that the network itself is most likely just fine.
