make the ipod a remote...

quiksan

awesomer...
C'mon Griffin, you've got the awesome iTrip and iTrip mini, take it a step further and make the wifi version, that will interface with AirTunes/AirPort Express so we can use our iPods as remotes!!!!

I know I'm not the only person who's thought of this (and if I am, well I must just be a genyus), so what's taking so long at this point?!!?!?!?!

well, giving the benefit of the doubt, maybe griffin and those other companies are waiting for AirTunes and AirPort Express to actually come out into the wild.

keeping my fingers crossed...

There are still two minor issues that are slowing down this type of development: cost and power consumption.
At the moment, the cost of 802.11g components would add around $30-50 to the cost of production.
Also, while Bluetooth has been brought down to a suitable power-consumption level for ongoing portable use, 802.11g would still drain an iPod VERY quickly. Also, the current AirTunes technology requires that the stream be re-encoded using Apple's Lossless codec, which requires more processing power than the iPod is currently designed for.
