Mask IP?

Is there a way in Mac OS X to hide my IP address? Maybe set up a proxy or something? Is there a way to do it in network preferences, or do I need software?

You could always unplug it from the wall.

your IP address is the way packets on the network find your computer. You cannot hide it in any meaningful way. Yes you can put stuff between your mac and the internet to hide your internal IPs but that connection point has an IP which is actually the one you are assigned and they can track you by.

If you are trying to surf www.kittyporn.com anonymously you could use any number of anonymizing web proxies out on the net but all they do is forward the connection for you. They know who you are and what you are doing so it you don't trust them implicitly don't try anything you would not like Mr. Ashcroft to know about. Honestly if I was the FBI the first thing I would do is set up a relaying proxy to see what sneaky thing people are up to...

Gee I need to go to bed I'm getting bitter...

Actually, the web proxies are just what I'm looking for. I'm not trying to surf kitty porn or anything like that. ;) What sites would allow me to do that?
