Maximizing wireless range

I have Verizon Fios with a coax cable going into the Actiontec modem/router. I've attached a Time Capsule 2TB by ethernet cable to it. I have a wireless network set up through the Time Capsule. I disabled the Actiontec's wireless network. I was able to set up a wireless network on my Time Capsule 2TB (and not in bridge mode) without getting the NAT error I've seen mentioned in other threads. My problem is that I have very poor connection and speed if I'm not in the same room as the Time Capsule 2TB and Actiontec (both in bedroom 1).

I have Time Capsule 2TB set up to be extended. I installed an Airport Express in bedroom 2 and an old Time Capsule 500GB in the living room. All devices are up and running fine. I just can't seem to get online very well outside of bedroom 1. Apple support suggested that the Actiontec wireless network might be an interference, so I disabled that. Verizon tech suggested I look into stabilizing my IP or something like that. I've read a number of posts, but I'm unclear as to what steps to take. Other folks' main problems related to Time Capsule and Fios appear to be related to creating a wireless network.

I live in a high-rise apartment in NYC (Manhattan) with folks running their own networks so I know I might have interference issues. However, I had fewer problems with connection and speed when I had RCI cable (running the old Time Capsule 500GB and Airport Express).
