Maxtor 3000DV

My external 60GB firewire drive has been acting funny. When I ran disk utility, this is what I got:

Repairing disk for “disk1s9”
Volume check failed.

Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)

Repair attempted on 1 volume
0 HFS volumes repaired
1 volume could not be repaired

Any ideas? Nothing major is on the disk but would be a pain if I have to start over. Thanks!

Could you just back up anything on there to the internal drive and reformat? (maybe even zero the drive)

Do you have proper file access?
