MBOX Files not Importing into iMail

I use a MacBook which is installed with Leopard and is running the latest version. After an email crash, I had to export a number of my folders to my desktop. Now that the problem has been resolved and I want to import those mbox folders back into my iMail (which is running my Gmail accounts) I am not able.

I use the File-Import function and follow the steps. It looks like it is working but after the import the files and the folder are not there.

Help?
 
It may be useful to explain what you mean by I had to export a number of my folders to my desktop? Export and Import do not move the files. The originals of the files that you exported remained in place. You created copies of the exported files.

Also, your email provider is Gmail. If you are using the IMAP protocol, then all of your messages remain in place on the server. If you are using POP3, then you may need to restore the files if they are gone.
