MBP backlight dead -strange circumstances

Hi there,

I have farily extensive experience with Mac diagnosis and repair, but this one is befuddling.

Many months ago I replaced the LCD and glass on a client's 13" MBP - the glass and LCD had been damaged by a direct hit. Repair went well, all seemed good.

The other day he called me and said he was getting no image on his display. I hooked it up to a VGA monitor and the external display worked. In sys profiler under Graphics/Displays it read no display connected.

If I shined a flashlight from behind I could see the display graphics.

So diagnosis was pointing towards a bad LCD but I thought I would double check. So I opened up MY 13" MBP and by putting the computers close together managed to connect MY display connector to HIS logic board and vice-versa. I expected that one would work and one would not, and that would confirm diagnosis of bad LCD.

Imagine my surprise when neither of them worked hooked up in this fashion. "hmmm" I said, and put the respective machines back together.

Now guess what? MY backlight seems to be fried, as MY computer is now exhibiting the exact same symptoms as my client's!!! Could a problem with his logic board have fried my LCD? (incidentally I noticed the slightest bit of liquid residue around his DC-in)

I really I hope I didn't just fry my machine but looking probable...any thoughts??

thanks
brian
