MBP seems to wake from sleep on its own

I have a 2008 alu MBP running 10.5.8. After the latest firmware update, it started acting odd.

I set it to sleep, and the fans spin down, it goes silent etc. However, when I wake it (usually by opening the lid), it doesn't give the buzz that signals the hard drive switching on. The programs I leave running (YIM, Google Notifier) act as if the computer has just been woken from sleep, but people from my YIM list have told me they saw me online during times when my computer was still supposed to be on sleep mode.

Has anybody else encountered this issue?

Please help!

May want to check system preferences/energy saver and see if the box for "wake for Ethernet network access" is ticked.

Try zapping the PRAM by starting and holding command+option+P+R until the machine chimes at least three times then release to let it start normally. Then test again.

I tried, but it gave no result. I figured out that the hard drive is the problem - it doesn't stop spinning while everything else goes into sleep mode.

Then go into system preferences/energy saver and make sure "put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" is checked. If it wasn't checked just give it a restart to make sure the change gets written to .plist
