menu bar clock and sound gone! (in finder)

the controls for the time and sound in the finder menu bar are gone! Ive done nothing to them.

this has happened before... im trying to figure out how to put them back there?

X is weird... windows like in some ways.... it does things on its own, without you telling it to. just like windows and pee cees'.

Open System Prefs, go to the Sound panel and check the box which says "Show volume in menu bar." Go to the Date & Time panel annd click the "Menu Bar Clock" tab, check the box which says "Show the clock in the menu bar."
