Microphone - How to get it to work??

I have a couple of headsets with a boom mic, one is this model ...

I've plugged it into the audio input on the back of my G4 DP1ghz mirror doors mac and I can't get it to register a sound. Shouldn't I just be able to open the sound preference panel and see an input??

I had the same problem as you, on my MDD dual 1 GHz.

I tried both the original apple mic that I received with my old B&W, which has and 'extended' input jack on it. And I also tried a mic with a standard input jack on it.

Neither one worked for me.

I eventually went with a USB mic, before I got my iSight , that is.
