minidvd discs and powerbook?

I recently bought a Sony Handycam. I love it, but the only problem is that I cannot put the mini dvd rw discs into the Powerbookg4. I tried, but the disk slot doesn't take them, instead I end up pushing the disc in and it gets stuck. The model I have does not have a usb input or firewire on the camera so i can't edit it that way. Does mac have a minidisc reader that i can plug in like an external disc drive or some sort of adapter? I also need an external dvd burner, what would you recommend? Is it possible that they make a dual minidisc reader and dvd player together. If not then it's not a problem. I appreciate the help.
 
well, the mini disk should work in any tray loading dvd drive. as for brands of dvd drives to get, goto owc and see what they have.
 
you mentioned usb. surely firewire (iLink) should work, and be far more efficient with mac editing software?

i'd give that a try.
