Just wondering if anyone knew how to minimize an open app (in this case, Diablo II). I know in Windows it's Alt-Tab, but I can't figure out the Mac equivalent.
My advice is to hide (CMD-H) instead of minimizing windows, since the open application shows up in the dock with a tick anyway, and hiding them uses less system resources (I'm Scottish when it comes to money and resources what can I say
Minimizing windows actually just scales them. If you notice, the minimized window is updated (but probably only in Cocoa applications). Try it: open the terminal, clear the screen, and update prebinding, you'll see the minimized window fill with text. Cool feature, but kinda useless, I can't see well enough to make out anything that small...
It's VERY useful if your dock is huge--you can have ten or twelve applications running with a good view of all of them plus one taking up most of the screen. If you hack the dock so 256x256 icons are allowed, it's even better.
if i recall, the alt tab in windows doesn t hide anything. it just cycles through the open windows. command-tab does the same thing in OSX
here is a handy list
command-tab cycles through the running apps
command-` cycles through windows of active app
command-h hides the active app
command-m minimizes the foremost window of the active app
control-F3 lets you cycle through the dock items
[/list=1]
notes: command-tab works just like in windows, except it cycles through apps, not windows.
command-` only works for cocoa apps
control-F3 has to be activated. this is done by pressing control-F1`. once you press control-F3, it highlights a dock item. you can then get around with the arrows. this allows you to select apps that are not open, which command tab will not let you do.
