Missing my Powerbook

After being a bitch on the phone I managed to get Apple to take in my Powerbook for repairs to the Display, it had a cracking hinge.

It should be back tuesday. I was called by Apple and they told me that they could not fix the hinge but they could replace the display, thus replacing the hinge.

I was delighted to accept the offer as my Powerbook had a tiny scratch on the back. So now that won't be the case.

But I am using a Windows Laptop.... ugh... I miss my mac.

I'm missing my Powerbook too, it got half-inched (pinched/stolen) on the 14th December while I had interviews at Oxford University.

The insurers have agreed to replace it, but I'm missing it :(

I was at the University, so I had a student room, which happened to have a window that opened onto the front street. It had a draft screen, so there were effectively two layers of glass between the street and the room I was in.

I'd been hanging in the room in between interviews, using my Powerbook, with the curtains open. When I went out, I put my laptop in its case (a Crumpler neoprene one), and put it on a chair half-under the desk, the case was black, so it was fairly well hidden.

I get back into the room about 4 hours after I'd left, glass everywhere, half a paving slab on the floor. The first thing I noticed was, no Powerbook.

Completely gutted. I had backups of the important stuff (like my 5,500 word History essay, most of my photos). but I didn't have backups of some code I'd been writing, so I lost a few (~5000) lines of code that I'd been working on, and some Perl scripts I'd been hacking for work.

I've got the insurance on the task now, I'm waiting for them to supply a replacement, luckily, I had it covered for worldwide travel.

I'd only had it 48 days :(

Man, that sucks. It's amazing how greed will get the better of many people, to the point they loose all honesty...
I had to send my iBook in for the Logic Board Replacement program last week. I called on Friday; had the box on Monday; and had the computer back in my hands on Thursday, and it cost me nothing. Apple Support is so cool! :D
Those three days were strange though...

Rob, that truly is horrible to hear. I am sorry :(

On a side note, I was in Dixons in Oxford, and as a joke, I asked to see a 15 inch powerbook. A few minutes later I was being treated like a God. I was given a 15 inch Powerbook out of a box, high specs (going into £2000's), and he just went off somewhere. NO alarm. I could walk away and no one would notice. I didn't though. I just used the blooming thing for 2 hours :D

Originally Apple wouldn't take in my Pbook but I bitched on the phone and they gave me a 'special case number' to use. Now my Pbook is being fixed.

Want to know the most annoying thing? I am using a Windows Laptop. I am now used to it. When I get my mac I'll be doing all sorts "Why won't Ctrl Alt Del work?!" hah.

Because Apple Option Esc does instead! :D
I know when I had to use a Windoze for the three days mine was away, I missed a lot of the little shortcuts I'm used to on the Mac. It was quite disconcerting. That and the fact that I really like the keyboard on my iBook, and the one on the PC is dreadfully sticky comparatively.
