Monitor Blackout

Hi there!
This is not a Mac problem per se...
I have a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2020u monitor. It stopped working. Now when it tries to start up the following happens;
1 My G5 "sees" it. when set to dual monitor mode it puts things on that portion of the desktop. It tries to change the resolution if requested and recognizes it.
2 The monitor simply repeatedly CLICKS as if it is engaging the CRT.
3 The ready light fades in and out.

Should I buy a new monitor and give this to the trash guy?
What is the diagnosis of the problem.
I tried calling Computer Repair shops in my area but they all take the fifth and will not even guess. I am writing here because you guys have always had answers before.
Thanks,
Robert

First try connecting the monitor to another computer just to see if you can get it to work. That way, you can confirm it *is* the monitor and not the socket on the Mac.

Then, I would take the monitor to a place that does TV/Monitor repairs and get it looked at. There is no point throwing away a monitor if all it needs is $25 to fix it up, which is fairly often the case. Once you know what is wrong and what it will cost, you can make a more informed decision.
