Monitor calibration

I've been trying to properly calibarte my monitor with OSX. Its a samsung lcd. The colr is very off compared to the crt monitor I had before. I know the quality would be different but it seems to dratsic of a change. I followed the advanced calibration steps in systme preferences but it is still off. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Off in what way? If it is too blueish and "electrical", try lowering the colour temperature. If it is too yellowish and "dry" try raising the colour temperature. If the darker greys aren't showing up clearly, raise the gamma a bit. Remember also to check the display's own brightness and contrast settings, as these won't be affected by calibrating the monitor and can make a big difference.
