Monitor/ Vertical Lines Rainbow

Hi,

I've got an iMac G4, the one with the flat screen panel that is attached to the round base. All of a sudden in the last few days, twice when I turned it on, there was nothing on the screen but a rainbow of vertical lines. So far, both times, when I turned off the power and then powered it back up, it has come on just fine, and has worked well for the rest of the time it remained on. Does anyone have any idea of what is going on? Have you seen this before? Am I getting ready to lose my monitor? Would appreciate any help or thoughts. Thank You.

Did you install anything new? What OS are you using? Is it the 15 inch or 17 inch panel?

You should run Disk Utility. Start up the computer with the OS X CD(restart after inserting the CD and hold down the C key). Do not click on install, go to the menu and select Disk Utility. Have it verify, then repair all the problems it finds. When done, restart the computer.

Does it continue to 'act up'?
Your machine came with a Hardware Text CD. Run that to see if it can detect the problem. Then call Apple Care service with the results if there is a hardware problem.

Hi Cheryl,

I did recently within about a week, install and then upgrade to OSX 10.2.6. Prior to that I was using OSX 10.1.5. I didn't see this problem until the new OS was in for about 5 days. That's why I didn't think it was related.

Thanks... Artist

I don't think you're in any danger of losing your monitor. I saw the subject and thought the problem was more akin to a CRT based monitor. I suspect it was just a firmware glitch.
