Most applications crashing immediately.

I'm running OS X 10.3.9 on a 3 year old eMac. I've had issues with my memory before, since I'm only at 256MB, so I'm not ruling this out as a potential memory problem. My applications are crashing immediately after I open them, or after I use the application the slightest bit. Firefox is somehow working, miraculously. But I'm still having issues with iTunes, Adium, and Adobe Photoshop. Here's the code from iTunes crashing. If you can help, thank you, because I do not have the finances to afford an upgrade.

Even with 256 MB of good memory, you'll run into issues with large programs like Photoshop. It looks to me to be a memory issue, you should replace the existing memory and get at least 512 MB of new memory.

Well, first things first.
What have you done to resolve the immediate problem?

Crashing apps can cause havoc on your hard drive. Particularly if they are writing to the drive when the crash occurs. How do you know if the app is writing to the drive when it crashes? You don't, unless it crashes shortly after a save operation.

First check your drive health. Boot into single user mode (restart and hold down apple(command) + "s" until you see white type on a black background.
When the scrolling text stops, you should see instructions for running "fsck".

Type: fsck -yf
Hit the return key

Let it do what it can.
If it reports errors, run the same command again, until it no longer finds errors (or until you are sure that the exact same errors have been repeated several times).

If the same errors are repeated a few times, then it is unlikely that fsck can repair the problem.

You can:
Buy Disk Warrior and feel "pretty confident" it will resolve your hard drive problem (no guaranties, but it's pretty darned good),
Or:
Backup your data, reformat the drive (writing zeros), reinstall the OS and applications, then restore your data.

Seriously. Buy, at the verrrry least, 512 MB of RAM. A Gig of RAM if you are using Photoshop and a couple other apps.
OS X loves RAM, but will operate in less, sorta okay, if you are not too demanding.
Photoshop probably has a requirements of at least 256 MB all by itself. That is above what the minimum OS requirements are (256MB). 512 should be considered the minimum if you use Mail, Browser, iTunes, and TextEdit simultaneously. Don't even think about any combination of three above + Photoshop.
If you insist on operating in a RAM constrained situation, then be realistic about what you are running in that RAM.
Quit applications you are not using at the time. That's right. "Quit" them.

Attempted to repair permissions several times, and gave fsck -yf a try and didn't have any luck. And as for my HD, I have 18GB available out of 40.

Unfortunately I may have to resort to taking it into the Apple store. :_(

Before you take it to apple, I'd get a new stick of memory to test - Apple repairs are very, very expensive when out-of-warenty.
